Nutrition Awareness Campaign
To celebrate World Breast Feeding week (1-7 August) and International Year of Millets, Rotary Club Jaipur Gurukul in collaboration with The Department of Home Science, IIS (deemed to be University) organized a Nutrition Awareness Campaign in the college premises with volunteer participation of M.Sc. H.Sc. (Foods & Nutrition) Semester III students, intending to create awareness of breastfeeding practices, emphasize and educate about exclusive breastfeeding and nutritional requirements. Sixteen female supporting staff of IIS University were invited as the audience for the campaign.
The theme of this year’s World Breastfeeding Week is ―Breastfeeding: Foundation for Life — a recognition of the importance of breastfeeding to a baby’s and Mother’s future. The topics covered during the lecture to make them aware of breastfeeding were what breastfeeding is, its importance, nutritional requirements of child and lactating mother, and myths of breastfeeding. Everything was described in a very easy local language with the use of posters and charts. Another plan of action was a demonstration of nutritious recipes using millets keeping in mind the requirements of lactating mothers. The two recipes prepared were Rajgira Besan Chilla and Bajra Ladoo. All the women who came there were happy to listen and showed their interest in the initiative which made it even better.
